In a media statement, Globe said it has expanded its LTE infrastructure in key cities of Metro Manila as well as major areas outside the metropolis. These include Pasig City, Quezon City, Taguig, City of Manila, Muntinlupa City, as well as Cebu City and Boracay in Malay, Aklan in the Visayas. Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu said that the company?s LTE expansion will quickly cover more ground across the Philippines as the first phase of its modernization nears completion. He said the expansion will be supported by the ongoing rollout of over 12,000 kilometers of fiber optic cable spanning the archipelago. Globe Chief Technical Advisor Robert Tan said its LTE signal has upped the ante in terms of Internet connectivity by as much as 42 Mbps, which he said is ?currently the fastest available there is now.? For its part, Smart said its LTE service is accessible in several areas across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao as it fired up new LTE cell sites nationwide. According to Smart Broadband Internet and Data Services Head Lloyd Manaloto, the latest round of expansions is the largest and most expansive the telco has achieved ever since the service was made available commercially in August of last year. Several areas in Davao City in Mindanao, Iloilo City, Cebu City, Mandaue City, and Bacolod City in Visayas, and Baguio City, Laoag City, San Fernando City, Cabanatuan City, Urdaneta City, Antipolo City, Olongapo City, Tagaytay City, and Dagupan City in Luzon now have access to Smart?s LTE service. The deployment extends Smart LTE?s presence as it covers a total of 46 cities and 69 municipalities nationwide. ?What?s more, we are also extending our unli period for one month — Smart LTE Broadband services can now be used on an unlimited basis until April 30, 2013,? Manaloto added. Powering Smart LTE is its fiber optic cable (FOC) network in the Philippines covering 54,000 kms. ?Fiber optic cables uses beams of light to communicate from the core network to our base stations,? said Manaloto. ?This gives Smart a clear ?fiber optic advantage? which simply cannot be matched by any other network,? he added. Smart LTE is available in Plans 1299, 1749, and 3500 with a free USB-dongle or with a Pocket WiFi device for a one-time fee of P2,000. LTE can also be availed on an unlimited basis on Smart LTE Postpaid Plan 2000 with a free Sony Xperia V or ZTE T82 Android smartphone, or with a Smart iPhone 5 postpaid plan. ]]>
