By Tom Noda Late as it may seem, telco operator Smart Communications has officially unveiled on Wednesday, Jan. 29, its locally developed mobile chat app called ?Babble Messenger?. Babble Messenger Voyager Innovations, a subsidiary of Smart which created the app, said the Babble Messenger has its own line of Filipino-themed stickers that can attract global users. Benjie Fernandez, chief operating officer of Voyager Innovations, said Babble Messenger has chatting options and features that appeal to local users such as chatrooms, group messaging, and stickers. But, what stands out among the app’s features is the secret messaging wherein one can send text and photos to a friend which will then disappear after about 10 seconds. This feature has been made famous by US-made app SnapChat. Fernandez said secret messaging is applicable for users who want to maintain the privacy of conversations and keep things just between their chat mates. Aside from chats, users can also send multimedia content such as photos, videos, and voice messages to their friends through Babble Messenger. ?It?s already a given that Pinoys love to chat ? we are, after all, the so-called ?texting capital of the world?,? Fernandez said. ?Babble Messenger hopes to answer to many Filipinos? insatiable appetite to talk and socialize, whether it?s with their significant other, their group or friends, or with other chatters they randomly meet online.? Babble Messenger is available for Android and iOS smartphones and can be downloaded for free on the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. It offers unlimited chatting to mobile users worldwide. The service is offered for free with no data charges to users of SmartNet, the free mobile portal of Smart, while standard data charges apply for subscribers of other networks. Fernandez said they will be introducing more features in the coming months to meet the demand by local users. ]]>
