Samsung debuts Galaxy S5, new wearable gadgets in PH

By Tom Noda The local unit of consumer tech behemoth Samsung Philippines held a grandiose party last week to launch in the country the newest version of its flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5, along with a slew of new wearable Gear gadgets. s5 s5 unit The local launch comes more than a month after the products were first officially launched at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Samsung executives showed off the devices at the Samsung Hall in SM Aura mall in Bonifacio Global City at an event attended by celebrities, the local media and telco officials. Samsung will initially sell the S5 in white and black colors at selected local stores on April 12 with a suggested retail price of P34,990. Its gold and blue versions will arrive at a later date. The event also highlighted the special features of S5 and the Gear Fit, Gear 2, and Gear 2 Neo wearable devices. Samsung will also sell this April, the Gear Fit, Gear 2, and Gear 2 Neo devices created for people with active lifestyles. All are wearable like wristwatches. The prices and colors are as follows:

Earlier, local carriers Globe Telecom and Smart Communications have announced the bundling of the S5 with their latest postpaid plans. s gear According to Samsung, the S5’s main capabilities encompass fitness, productivity and even photography. It connects with Gear Fit and Gear 2 making all devices as legit fitness tools. All devices are said to be waterproof. S5 is touted to be the first smartphone with a built-in Heart Rate Sensor which can measure a person’s heart rate by just placing one’s finger on the back of the phone. It can also be a guide in doing physical activities with its pedometer and S Health features to provide constant tracking of one’s condition, walking distance, calories, speed, duration, among others. With regard to photography, S5 boasts of having fast auto-focus, HDR or rich tone, as well as selective focus. The company said the Gear Fit, Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are all compatible with a wide variety of Samsung devices and are set to be expanded in the near future. Galaxy S5 specs:
