DepEd to formally sign IRR of S&T scholarships law

The rules governing a scholarship program that is expected to will speed up the process of attracting more science, technology, and engineering graduates in the Philippines will have its ceremonial signing on Monday, Aug. 4.

The Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act No. 10612, also known as the ?Fast-Tracked S&T Scholarship Act of 2013,? will be signed at 9:00 in the morning at the OSEC Conference Room at the Department of Education (Deped) Complex on Meralco Avenue in Pasig City.

Republic Act No. 10612 envisions a fast-tracking of more science, technology and engineering graduates by offering scholarships to deserving students in their third year of undergraduate study, based on their competitiveness and merit, the Deped said in an email message.

The IRR?s ceremonial signing will be attended by DepEd secretary Armin A. Luistro, DOST secretary Mario G. Montejo, Sen. Ralph G. Recto, and former Agham rep. Angelo Palmones.

The law ?also offers additional incentives to attract the graduates of this scholarship program into teaching science, mathematics and technology courses in public or private high schools,? the Deped added.

Scholars under the program will enjoy, among others, priority job placement ?in any high school, public or private, of his/her choice within the country, with first priority in his/her home province,? the law said.

Scholars will also receive a one-time relocation allowance should he/she be assigned in a place other than the permanent residence.
