Quezon City exempts e-vehicles from number coding

To encourage more people to shift to electric vehicles, Mayor Herbert Bautista recently signed an ordinance exempting alternative fuel powered vehicles from number coding in Quezon City.

In a statement, Bautista said he believes that the measure would encourage more people to shift to alternative fuel powered vehicles which could help reduce harmful engine emissions to the environment.

The modification in the City’s Traffic Management Code paved the way to further highlight the significance of shifting/converting from conventional gas/diesel engines to alternative fuels.

Under the ordinance, the exemption is open to all kinds of vehicles using alternative fuels. Vehicle owners must apply for exemption from the DPOS, submitting the duly filled-up application form and certificate of vehicle registration, and pay the filing fee. The fee, however, is not yet determined.

Upon submission of requirements, vehicles are subject to mandatory inspection at Department of Public Order & Safety (DPOS).

When all requirements are met, the owner granted the exemption shall be issued a sticker signed by the mayor. The sticker must be placed at the windshield area of the alternative fueled vehicle. Unregistered alternative fueled vehicles will not be exempted. — PIA
