VIRAL | Jollibee mascot’s cute ‘Versace on the Floor’ tagged as ‘offensive’

Up until Sunday, May 21, Tanner Mata’s claim to fame was that he was once a participant of the reality show Pinoy Big Brother. However, at exactly 10:17 a.m. that day, Mata uploaded on his Facebook page a video clip showing a Jollibee mascot dancing to the Bruno Mars hit, “Versace on the Floor.”

Jollibee is, of course, one of the most recognized brands in the country. The fastfood chain has a family-oriented image and has, in fact, capitalized on this to expand its empire.

Anyway, the Jollibee mascot’s “Versace on the Floor” has gone viral. As of 12:42 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, the video has been viewed 5,086,628 times and shared 114,280 times.

Then again, it seems that the folks at Jollibee are not too happy about this. In fact, they’ve even issued an apology for it. As it turns out, some people have allegedly complained about the said video, pointing out that the mascot’s dance moves are “suggestive,” “too sexy,” and “offensive.”

“We would like to clarify that the performance is a deviation from the standard mascot and party guidelines ? be it for Jollibee Kids Party or internal events,” declared Jollibee.

Well, the mascot’s fans have something to say about this. Most of them are exasperated by Jollibee’s apology. Sure, “Versace on the Floor” has steamy lyrics, but this is not the first time mascots have danced to such songs.

Case in point: Here’s a YouTube video of the mascot having fun twerking with the Mocha Girls.

Anyway, the mascot’s defenders brought up some very good points.

All we can say is this: That bee has got killer moves.
