Candidates told to register social media pages, websites before campaigning online

BAGUIO CITY ? The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Baguio City is reminding candidates running in the May 13 polls to register their social media sites as well as websites before campaigning online.

Comelec official John Paul Martin local candidates should also register all their online presence including those being used by their supporters.

He said that online campaign posts are subjected to monitoring and regulation under Comelec Resolution 10488.

According to Martin, the Comelec will be regulating election propaganda that now includes social media posts whether originally created by the social media site owner or he just reposted it.

“This will be advantageous for the candidate as he will be ensured that all the posts because they will be monitored,” Martin added.

He explained that the Comelec will only recognize the sites that were registered with them, adding that that posts on unregistered sites will be recommended to be taken down.
