The two companies announced their collaboration during an event at the Tower Club in Makati City on Tuesday, June 13, with IPC chief operating officer Dave de Leon and Continent 8 co-founder and chief executive officer Michael Tobin sealing the deal.

“Today, the level of sophistication of technology has reached a certain point that even people with evil desires actually use the same technology and skills to pursue their own ends. And it’s very important that we employ the same skills and technology to be able to combat these particular threats that are emanating from everywhere now,” de Leon said.

With the continuing shift of companies to digital, cases of revenue loss occur due to cyber attacks, the companies said, noting that Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack is one of the major cyber crime that is common with business-related institutions.

DDoS is a kind of cyber attack that ?denies? service or renders a company?s website and servers inaccessible to users by flooding it with large volumes of malicious traffic.

Government agencies, banks and financial institutions, online gaming sites, and software-as-a service providers are the prevalent targets of hackers to extort money due to tight competition, for diversion, and for politics.

In 2016, the largest attack reported was 500 Gbps. 92% suffered attacks below 1 Gbps and 82% below 100 Mbps. Cloud-based services also see a trend with 33% increase of cyber attacks reported.

Cyber attacks cause threats to a business enterprise through major loss of revenue, to possible negative reputation, and slump of high trust from customers online, the companies said.

Continent 8 chief development officer Nick Nally said online ransom has become prevalent, with payment going as high as $7,520. Nally suggested that it is best to ignore the calls for ransom payments and immediately relinquish control to cyber crime experts.

IPC and Continent 8 vowed unmatched DDoS attack type coverage, uncompromised Internet service quality, international attack scrubbing capacity, and highly experienced technical support 24/7.

The pricing of the DDoS mitigation from the partnership will depend on the needs of certain enterprises, according to Ni?o Valmonte, director for marketing and digital innovation of IPC.
