Following the appointment of Eliseo M. Rio Jr. as acting secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Malacanang has promoted assistant secretary John Henry Naga as the agency’s newest undersecretary.
Photo from the Facebook page of John Henry Naga (right) shows him with Senator Gregorio Honasan (left) and DICT acting secretary Eliseo M. Rio Jr. during President Duterte’s recent trip to South Korea
Naga, who is said to be a close relative of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, is a law graduate of San Beda College and formerly served as assistant secretary for administration at the DICT. He now joins old-hands Denis Villorente and Monchito Ibrahim as undersecretaries at the ICT agency.
Aside from his new role as undersecretary, Naga indicated in his LinkedIn profile that he is also concurrently serving as chief of staff to the secretary – a role formerly held by DICT assistant secretary Carlos Caliwara.
Naga, along with rumoured secretary-in-waiting Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan, accompanied Rio during Duterte’s recent controversial trip to South Korea.
As reported here in Newsbytes.PH, Honasan is being tipped as the next DICT chief due to his closeness to Duterte. He is barred from running as a senator in the next national elections.
Observers said his appointment could come soon as he longer needs to wait for the impeachment hearing of former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno who was removed by the Supreme Court when it granted a quo warranto petition filed against her by the Office of the Solicitor General.
