Cagayan freeport pushes tech-driven transformation

The Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) spotlighted technology-led development as a central pillar of its strategy to transform the Cagayan Freeport Zone into a regional economic and innovation powerhouse during the 2025 Arangkada Philippines Investment Forum held at the Marriott Grand Ballroom.

Secretary Katrina Ponce Enrile said CEZA is “building a forward-looking platform where industries of the future can thrive,” emphasizing the agency’s commitment to fostering technology transfer, digital infrastructure, and innovation-driven enterprises.

Among CEZA’s flagship projects are the expansion of Port Irene and the enhancement of Cagayan North International Airport — developments designed to support trade logistics and digital connectivity.

The agency is also constructing new industrial parks featuring smart utilities, modular wastewater systems, and high-speed digital infrastructure to attract data centers, fintech companies, and tech-driven enterprises.

A new business district is being planned to host data centers, office towers, and hotels, forming what CEZA describes as a “complete ecosystem for global enterprises.”

This move aligns with the freeport’s ambition to position itself as a hub for emerging technologies, sustainable industries, and digital trade.

Beyond infrastructure, CEZA is actively promoting sectors that integrate technology into sustainability. Enrile highlighted initiatives in renewable energy, aquaculture, and agro-industrial modernization — areas expected to blend digital technologies such as AI-based monitoring and smart farming systems to boost productivity and resilience.

In the tourism front, CEZA is encouraging sustainable, low-density developments that use digital platforms for environmental management, visitor engagement, and eco-tourism promotion.

As the country’s northern gateway to Asia, the Cagayan Freeport Zone aims to leverage its geographic advantage for digital trade, cybersecurity, and cross-border tech investments.

“The Cagayan Economic Zone Authority stands ready to be your partner,” Enrile said. “We invite innovators and investors to be part of a future without limits.”
