Equinix starts PH operations, commits $200-M investment in data infrastructure

Global data center operator Equinix has officially launched its operations in the Philippines, marking a major step in its $200-million investment commitment to strengthen the country’s digital infrastructure.

The company formally opened its newest data center facility in Carmona, Cavite, which complements its existing network of data centers in the country. These include MN1, MN2, and MN3, acquired from local tech firm TIM Group of Companies.

Collectively, the facilities will offer more than 1,000 cabinets of capacity, ensuring low-latency, high-reliability digital services for Philippine enterprises.

Equinix also rolled out its flagship interconnection services — Equinix Fabric, Fabric Cloud Router, and Equinix Internet Access — designed to help businesses seamlessly connect their physical and virtual infrastructures to over 10,000 global partners.

Equinix Asia-Pacific president Cyrus Adaggra said the launch underscores the country’s rising status as a digital and innovation hub in Southeast Asia.

“The Philippines plays a pivotal role in the region’s digital future, with its fast-growing economy, young workforce, and thriving innovation ecosystem,” Adaggra said.

“The introduction of our interconnection services will be a game changer, helping businesses digitize faster and paving the way for AI adoption.”

He said Equinix’s investment aligns with the government’s “Konektadong Pinoy” vision and the recently enacted Open Access in Data Transmission Act, focusing on three pillars: robust digital infrastructure, neutral connectivity, and inclusive community building.

“Our infrastructure can empower the Philippine contact center industry to move up the value chain and help young Filipino technopreneurs bring their AI-driven businesses to the global stage,” he added.

Government officials hailed Equinix’s expansion as a sign of strong investor confidence in the country’s digital economy.

Angela Ignacio, undersecretary at the Office of the Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs, said the move “strengthens the country’s position as a key player in the regional data infrastructure landscape” and aligns with the administration’s push for innovation-driven investments.

Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) secretary Henry Aguda said Equinix’s entry supports the government’s drive for a more connected digital ecosystem.

“By bringing world-class services to our shores, we are better positioned to empower businesses, government, and communities to fully participate in the digital economy,” Aguda said.

The Philippines joins Equinix’s growing Asia-Pacific network, which includes data centers in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

The company now operates 64 data centers across 18 metros in the region, and more than 270 globally across 36 countries, serving over 10,000 network, cloud, and enterprise partners.

Equinix said its carrier-neutral model enables businesses to diversify providers, ensure network resilience, and scale their infrastructure for AI workloads, cloud-native applications, and other emerging digital industries.

“Today, Equinix officially becomes part of the Philippine business landscape,” Adaggra said. “We pledge to build new pathways for the unstoppable progress of Philippine businesses and the Filipino people.”
