Boutique carrier Sunlight Air has reinforced its growing footprint in the Philippine aviation sector with the acquisition of its fourth aircraft — the state-of-the-art ATR 72-600, equipped with next-generation avionics and sustainable flight technology.
The regional turboprop, co-developed by French-Italian manufacturer ATR, represents a leap forward in efficiency and smart aviation design.
Compared to conventional regional aircraft, the ATR 72-600 consumes 45% less fuel and emits significantly lower carbon output, achieving an estimated 2.8 liters per 100 kilometers per seat — positioning Sunlight Air among the country’s most fuel-efficient domestic carriers.
Sunlight Air customized the aircraft’s 72-seat configuration to 68 seats to improve passenger comfort and cabin space.
The aircraft also features advanced noise-reduction insulation, optimized airflow systems, and LED mood lighting that align with modern standards for energy-efficient, passenger-friendly interiors.
Under the hood, the ATR 72-600 is powered by Thales-designed avionics, which enhance flight safety and reduce pilot workload through intelligent automation and real-time performance monitoring.
The upgraded multi-purpose computer system assists flight crews with improved navigation and data integration, making operations more responsive and secure — a hallmark of ATR’s latest technology suite.
All maintenance operations are carried out by ATR Global Maintenance Agreement (GMA)-certified engineers, ensuring strict compliance with Philippine Civil Aviation Regulations (PCAR).
The aircraft’s predictive maintenance systems and airworthiness checks are digitally logged and monitored, guaranteeing reliability and operational transparency.
The ATR 72-600 officially enters service on October 26, 2025, serving a multi-leg route: Clark–Siargao–Cebu–Busuanga–Clark.
Sunlight Air also announced a new direct Cebu–Siquijor route, set to launch December 15, 2025, marking the first commercial airline connection to the island.

“This new aircraft is one manifestation of our growth and our commitment to technological advancement in aviation,” said Ryna Brito-Garcia, CEO of Sunlight Air.
“As we expand our fleet, we’re not only improving operational efficiency but also redefining passenger experience through innovation, safety, and sustainability.”
With the addition of the ATR 72-600, Sunlight Air’s fleet now comprises three ATR 72-500s and one ATR 72-600, all bearing a refreshed livery and modernized logo.
