Online delivery firm foodpanda Philippines marked World Food Day with a technology-driven campaign that showcased how digital logistics and smart partnerships can tackle hunger and food waste in local communities.
Under its company-wide advocacy “Let’s Do Our Pau-rt,” foodpanda deployed its digital delivery infrastructure and volunteer network to support multiple outreach initiatives across Metro Manila — including communities in Quezon City and Taguig — in partnership with non-profit and government institutions.
In collaboration with Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Philippines, an environmental NGO that uses data and cold-chain logistics to recover surplus food, foodpanda optimized its delivery and dispatch platform to help transport rescued food to underserved communities.
Through SOS’s Rescue Kitchen initiative, and with the aid of foodpanda’s riders and volunteer teams, more than 500 beneficiaries in Pook Malinis, Quezon City received freshly prepared meals made from surplus ingredients that would otherwise go to waste.
“Food waste and food insecurity are two sides of the same coin,” said Bianca Alarcon, executive affairs management officer of SOS Philippines.
“Technology plays a big role in connecting surplus food with people who need it most — and foodpanda’s logistics ecosystem makes that possible at scale.”
Beyond its delivery app, foodpanda utilized its logistics analytics and route-optimization tools to ensure faster, more efficient deployment of food packs and hygiene kits for women deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the BJMP NCR Taguig Women’s Dormitory.
The platform’s ability to coordinate multi-point deliveries and real-time tracking enabled the timely distribution of essentials for a month-long outreach program coinciding with BJMP’s National Correctional Consciousness Week.
“This partnership means a lot to us and to our PDLs,” said Aubrey Gutierrez, jail chief inspector of Taguig City Jail-Female Dormitory. “Collaborations with tech-enabled partners like foodpanda help us bridge logistical gaps and deliver much-needed care efficiently.”
foodpanda’s World Food Day campaign highlights how technology can extend beyond convenience to foster compassion and inclusion.
By using its platform to mobilize riders, volunteers, and surplus food networks, the company transforms everyday logistics into a sustainable social system.
“foodpanda celebrating World Food Day just feels right at home,” said Lew Lopez, director of public relations and public affairs at foodpanda Philippines.
“Our platform has always been about connection — between restaurants, riders, and customers. This time, technology connected compassion, ensuring no one is left out of the table.”
