The Department of Education (DepEd) will soft-launch DepEd TV through a technology-focused partnership with Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) and Solar Learning, signaling a renewed push to use broadcast, satellite, and offline systems to extend digital learning beyond Internet-dependent platforms.
The initiative relies on a multi-layered delivery system that combines cable television, direct-to-home satellite, and digital terrestrial television with offline media solutions.
According to DepEd, this setup is designed to reach schools and households with limited or unreliable connectivity, allowing video-based lessons to be integrated into classroom instruction without requiring constant internet access.
DepEd TV content will be distributed through Knowledge Channel’s broadcast and digital infrastructure, while Solar Learning will provide the technical backbone for nationwide transmission.
The system supports simulcast and delayed telecasts, as well as satellite feed integration, enabling standardized programming to be delivered simultaneously across regions.
A key component of the platform is its offline capability. DepEd said schools will be able to use preloaded TV packages and portable media libraries containing curriculum-aligned video lessons.
These tools allow teachers to access and replay instructional content on demand, even in remote or disaster-affected areas where online learning platforms are inaccessible.
The soft launch will introduce a structured broadcast grid for School Year 2025–2026, covering Early Childhood Development through Grade 10.
Lessons are organized by subject and grade level to follow a predictable schedule, effectively turning broadcast television into a synchronized instructional system rather than a purely supplementary resource.
DepEd said the technology framework will be tested initially in Metro Manila and selected provinces in Luzon.
Performance metrics such as signal stability, content delivery consistency, and regional accessibility will be evaluated during the soft launch before nationwide expansion.
The agency said results from the technical rollout will guide further scaling of DepEd TV and its integration with other education technology platforms, as it assesses how broadcast and offline systems can complement online learning tools in the public school system.
