MARAWI CITY ? Pres. Benigno Aquino III on Monday, April 22, led the groundbreaking of the P45-million Mindanao State University (MSU) College of Information Technology building here to improve education in the region.
In his speech, the president said in Filipino: ?For more than five decades, the Mindanao State University has cultivated and shaped the mental abilities of thousands of children in Mindanao. Your mandate, rooted in the belief that people powered and sealed for high quality education is the key to a prosperous and peaceful society?.
He added: On this day, we had the groundbreaking for the new facility that will empower the youth of Mindanao: the MSU-Main Campus College of Information Technology Building. We’ve provided P45 million for this which is part of the P2.6 billion budget of MSU for 2013?.
Once the project is completed, Aquino said students and the community near MSU will benefit from the modern computer training center, new teleconferencing and multi-media room, and laboratory for teaching IT.
He said: “It is really important to have a modern computer center for the so-called ‘information age.’ This can be compared to higher levels of training in the field of technology and modern communication, and would open more opportunities for the new professionals.”
The president also cited the Public Higher Education Roadmap of the Commission on Higher Education which aims to enhance capabilities of teachers in state colleges and universities.
“We also see to it that there will be increase in the budgets of our basic education and state universities and colleges uninterrupted lifted the basic education budget and our state universities and colleges,” he noted.
?We can now see the transformation of Mindanao as a region of peace and prosperity. We see Mindanao will soon be flocked with tourists and investors who are willing to put in their money in the region,” he added. — PNA
