Telecommunications firms PLDT and Smart Communications have opposed the indiscriminate blocking of online platforms, saying restrictions should instead target specific content that harms or exploits children.
Converge ICT Solutions Inc. said it blocked nearly 12 billion attempts to access websites carrying dangerous, inappropriate, and harmful content in 2025 as the broadband provider stepped up measures aimed at protecting children and other users online.
The measures were announced before the Zamboanga City school shooting, which subsequently intensified public debate in the Philippines over minors’ exposure to violent games, online chat groups and other potentially harmful digital content.
