The Philippine government said it is closely monitoring the performance of local telcos as the country moved up to the 86th spot in the global mobile Internet speed rankings in January 2021 based on an Ookla report.

The Department of Justice has recommended for the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to penalize ISPs for failing to fulfill their duties under Republic Act No. 9775 or the Anti-Child Pornography Act of 2009.

The DICT said it will also provide desktop computer packages to the LGUs and schools in the Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi (BASULTA) area.

The Central Business Portal is being developed and deployed in phases, with the initial phase centered on an online, unified business application process.

The Anti-Red Tape Authority reminded LGUs to automate their transactions before June 17, 2021, by putting up the electronic Business One-Stop Shop or e-BOSS, which uses the Electronic Business Permitting and Licensing System or eBPLS developed by the DICT to allow the public to perform government transactions online.

With additional 4,305 live sites in 2020, the DICT said it more than doubled the total number of sites deployed throughout the entire country.

The Anti-Red Tape Authority and Commission on Audit have given the go-signal to government agencies and LGUs to use the DICT’s digital signatures through the Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI).
