In a decade, the country is expected to have 380 scientists, engineers, and researchers for every one million Filipinos, the suggested benchmark of the Unesco, a science and technology official said.
Republic Act No. 10612 envisions a fast-tracking of more science, technology and engineering graduates by offering scholarships to deserving students in their third year of undergraduate study, based on their competitiveness and merit, the Deped said in an email message.
The Superfund for Science and Engineering Scholarships is targeted to raise P5 billion in five years to encourage and enable the best and brightest Filipino youths to pursue studies and careers in science and engineering (S&E).
