The increase marks a steady recovery in the PC market, driven by upgrades to Windows 11 and the replacement of aging hardware.

According to preliminary data from analyst firm IDC, global smartphone shipments increased 1.0% year-over-year (YoY) to 295.2 million units in the second quarter of 2025 (2Q25).

Worldwide PC shipments during the second quarter of 2025 grew 6.5% from the prior year, with global volumes reaching 68.4 million shipments, according to preliminary results research firm IDC.

The information technology sector led AI investment activity in Asia Pacific in 2024, according to IDC, with the majority of deals targeting cloud computing, cybersecurity, SaaS platforms, data analytics, and machine learning.

Acer retained its lead in the Philippine PC market with a 24.1 market share, according to analyst firm IDC. But another report by market research firm GfK put Acer’s total market share during the same period at 35.7%, with a 34.2% share in consumer notebooks, and a 40.6% share in gaming laptops.

The wrist-worn device market includes smartwatches and wristbands.

This marks the second consecutive quarter of positive year-on-year growth, as reported by the analyst firm IDC.

Analyst firm IDC said the PC industry is clearly showing some level of pull-in in the first quarter this year as both vendors and end-users brace for the impact of US tariffs.

More than half of total shipments in 2024 were priced below $100, with Transsion (sub-brands Infinix, Tecno, and Itel) bringing in close to over 4.8 million units in the same price point.

This marks the sixth consecutive quarter of shipment growth, closing the whole year with 6.4% growth and 1.24 billion shipments, marking a strong recovery after two challenging years of decline.
