Globe Telecom has conducted field tests of 5G millimeter wave (mmWave) technology using Nokia’s Fixed Wireless Access system, recording download speeds as high as 4.3 Gbps in Zamboanga City.
The IPAA+ antenna was produced by Nokia for Globe as a sustainable, low footprint, and high capacity 4G/5G antenna to support smooth site upgrades across the country.
The initiative is facilitated by the grant received by Now Telecom from the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) to support the development of 5G mobile and fixed wireless networks in the country.
As the Philippines continues to experience exponential growth in data, supported by Omdia’s latest figures on cellular data traffic projections for the country, Nokia anticipates the demand of critical network technology to rise as the country bounces back from the pandemic and moves towards Industry 4.0.
The Nokia G21 will also be the first G-series product to receive a 90Hz screen refresh rate and view Netflix streamed content in high definition (HD) quality.
Nokia said enterprises at an advanced level of 5G adoption are growing faster than their peers, with more than 10% increase in productivity during the Covid-19 pandemic.
