DPWH Leyte goes full-steam ahead on e-NGA, e-budget

The Leyte engineering district of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said it has fully shifted from the traditional system to the electronic new government accounting system (e-NGAs) and electronic budget (e-budget).

Leyte, which recently conducted parallel testing of the systems, is one of the pioneering district offices in installing and testing the new system introduced by the Commission on Audit (COA).

As a result, ?our reports can now be done faster, obligations are readily updated and the data are accurate and not subject to manipulations,? said Ma. Margarita Junia, Leyte district engineer.

The e-NGAS software was developed by COA for installation in all national, local, and corporate government agencies to enhance uniformity in the application of government accounting rules and facilitate the consolidation of financial reports.

Electronic budgeting, on the other hand, is the budget module to this system, Junia said.

COA introduced the scheme to the DPWH main office in 2004. The agency is the pilot area of electronic accounting system designed to reduce red tape. — Erlinda Olivia P. Tiu, PIA 8
