Convergys to acquire Datacom?s call center operations in Asia

US-based BPO giant Convergys is expected to further tighten its grip on its unofficial title as the largest private employer in the Philippines as it announced on Thursday, April 4, that it has signed an agreement under which it will acquire New Zealand-based Datacom’s contact center operations in the Philippines, Malaysia, and China.

No financial information with regard to the acquisition was revealed.

Datacom and Convergys said they expect to close the transaction as soon as practicable. The acquisition will be accretive to Convergys’ 2013 earnings.

Datacom will add 15 Asian languages to Convergys’ language capabilities and approximately 1,000 employees, working in three Southeast Asia contact centers, to Convergys’s global operations. Convergys, meanwhile, has about 30,000 employees in the Philippines.

The integration of the two organizations is expected to take between six and nine months.

With 4,300 people, Datacom is one of the largest Australasian-owned professional IT services companies, with revenues in excess of NZ$785 million.

It was founded in 1965 and operates across New Zealand and Australia and in Malaysia, the Philippines and China.
