IBM accelerates push for analytics educ in PH with free summer course

Tech giant IBM has announced that it is offering four analytics training courses for IBM Academic Initiative (AI) partner universities and colleges from April 22 to May 17 at the IBM Innovation Center, UP Ayala Technohub in Quezon City.

The free training is in line with IBM?s cooperation with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to develop an analytics education master plan for the Philippines.

The course schedules:

1. Fundamentals of Business Analytics (April 22 ? 23)
2. Fundamentals of Enterprise Data Management (April 24 -26)
3. Descriptive Analytics (April 29 ? May 3)
4. Predictive Analytics ( May 13 ? 17)

IBM and CHED said the country has what it takes to capture a significant share in the global analytics market opportunity and be a global center for smarter analytics.

To operationalize this vision, both parties have agreed to work and develop a Business Analytics Specialization Track, as a supplement to the existing programs offered by colleges and universities.

?The specialization track covers a balance of functional areas, which increases competencies in understanding data structures, data analysis and interpretation. This knowledge can be applied to any industry where data can be used for operational optimization and competitive advantages. More importantly, it can cater to both local and international industry demands for analytics skills,? said Jay Sabido, R&D executive of IBM Philippines.

The proposed Business Analytics Specialization Track will have an outcome-based multidisciplinary approach to education and harmonization of competencies with global standards.

The program aims to develop qualified individuals with contemporary skills and competencies for future business leadership and organizational success, which can span across all industries in the Philippines.

The track will use an integrated approach and will take into consideration the relationships among functional areas of business, as well as sensitivity to the economic, social, technological, legal and international environment in which business must operate.

The program?s objective is to instill and nurture skills essential for future business leadership and organizational success in the industry.

The Business Analytics specialization includes six areas, primarily Fundamentals of Business Analytics, Fundamentals of Enterprise Data Management, Fundamentals of Analytics Modeling, Analytics Techniques & Tools, Analytics Applications and Analytics Internship which includes internship, industry immersion and integration.

Globally, IBM recently announced the acquisition of the software portfolio of Star Analytics, a privately held business analytics company headquartered in Redwood City, California.

The combination of IBM and Star Analytics? software will further advance IBM’s business analytics initiatives allowing clients to easily access financial information stored in their applications, allowing them to make more informed decisions faster.

The news supports IBM’s long-term growth strategy to expand the company?s business analytics and optimization software and services capabilities, an area of IBM’s business that is expected to reach $20 billion in revenue by 2015.
