The country?s biggest private employer, Convergys, said on Tuesday, Feb. 25, that it wants to tap passive jobseekers in the country via its own mobile app called Mobile Apply, which was launched last January.
Citing a LinkedIn study, Convergys Philippines brand equity manager Jan Alfred Sanchez said 89 percent of the country’s talent pool is classified as passive job applicants composed mostly of employed people who are not looking for jobs.
“This means we’re only tapping 11 percent who are active and there is more,” Sanchez said, noting Convergys aims to gain 5,000 Mobile Apply users this year in the Philippines alone.
Spearheaded last Jan. 24 by its US headquarters, Mobile Apply is an end-to-end solution that can be used by both potential and current employees. The app is compatible with all operating systems and can be accessed at careers.convergys.com on a smartphone, tablet, or laptop and requires no downloading.
Sanchez said applications through Convergys Mobile Apply are processed within 24 hours of submission. The site lists openings locally and abroad like customer service, technical support, and sales positions, as well as management, operations, administration, among others.
Sanchez said Mobile Apply is designed to tap into the “millennial” market or persons who grew up with mobile computing devices and even professionals who have adopted mobile technology.
He said 74 percent of job applicants prefer applying online since it is more affordable and convenient.
“Mobile Apply breaks barriers like distance, time, and money in job applications,” Sanchez said.
He added that in terms of reach, Mobile Apply is larger than similar solutions owned by other business process outsourcing (BPO) firms.
“The technology itself is not unique but we’re the only BPO doing it on this scale ? meaning local and overseas. All our geographies have Mobile Apply,” Sanchez said.
Convergys has 82,000 employees globally. The company has a total of 97 sites located in North America, Europe, Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and Latin and South America. It employs over 39,000 professionals across 23 contact centers in the Philippines.
Only last year, Convergys had a consistent record of 25,000 job applications per month worldwide.
