Local members of the World Economic Forum (WEF) are launching a conference that aims to convene Filipino thought leaders and other East Asia WEF champions in Cebu City on May 23 to 25 to conduct networking and dialogue on social and economic development.
The upcoming summit, called ?Open Collaboration with East Asia New Champions (Ocean)?, is being organized by a community of young global leaders, global shapers, Schwab social entrepreneurs, and global growth firms in the Philippines with support from the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI).
The event’s goal is to gather Filipino leaders to drive partnerships with the world?s most powerful innovators. The three-day conference will be held at Movenpick Resort in Mactan, Cebu City.
Those attending will discuss where the Philippine economy is now, and what the future holds. More than 200 leaders from the government, business, academia, and arts and culture will share strategies and solutions for promoting social and economic progress as the Philippines prepares for Asean integration in 2015.
The Philippines ? an emerging economy ? is one of the best performing economies in the region. International Monetary Fund had raised its 2014 economic growth forecast for the Philippines to 6.5 percent. Standard and Poor?s also raised its growth projection to 6.6 percent for 2014.
?To further fuel the momentum, Ocean aims to develop a framework for creating Innovation Zones that promote a new class of businesses,? said Winston Damarillo, Ocean summit chairman. Damarillo is a Young Global Leader (YGL) and active participant of the World Economic Forum.
?Designed for start-ups and entrepreneurs working on high risk, high reward ventures, Innovation Zones will build on best practices and encourage innovation,? said Damarillo. ?We are very excited to hold the inaugural Ocean summit right here in Cebu.?
Ocean will feature keynotes such as Asean Social Enterprise and Igniting the Innovation Initiatives via Private-Public Partnerships, a range of interactive break-out sessions with themes around Sustainable Social Initiatives, Design Thinking and Solutions, and Enabling a Digitally-enabled Economy, fireside chats, Governor?s Gala, and hackathon presentations.
