Makati’s city government said that it is seeking to hold public biddings online for government projects and electronic payment for realty taxes, local business taxes, and other fees.
“We will simplify the payment of local taxes and make it, as far as practicable, a ?no physical contact’ process. We will employ the latest technology that would improve revenue collection efficiency and make tax payments less burdensome to our taxpayers,” Makati City mayor Abigail Binay said when she addressed a recent session of the Makati City Council.
Binay also said she wants to conduct public bidding through a secure electronic transaction system to prevent fixing and other forms of manipulation in transactions at the City Hall.
She also promised residents a high-speed Internet connection by setting up free Wi-Fi hotspots in the city’s barangay halls.
Binay noted the importance of using modern technology in ensuring that the city remains to be the country’s financial center.
“We must restore efficiency in government, restore the people’s faith in their leaders, and the business community’s confidence in our economy and our capacity to expand and sustain such an expansion,” she said. — PNA
