PesteBal lets the users play the role of Baltazar, a farmer?s son who has been assigned by his father to protect their crops against pests during ?The Golden Grain,? a period in the town of Bagong Silang when crops glow like gold.

?Nung una, pamilya ko ang nagtulak para sa mga ganitong project,? said Lariz Santos, 8layertech?s art director. ?Kailangan maging simple at alam mong makaka-relate sila.??(My family inspired me to create projects like this. It has to be simple and relatable to users.)

The gameplay of PesteBal ? an obvious wordplay on ?festival,? Peste (pests), and Bal (shorten name for ?Baltazar?) ? somehow mirrors the infamous Plants vs Zombies without the planting. Players? goal is to squash the incoming pests such as rodents, grasshoppers, and bugs and protect the life of the crops in ascending stages.

8layertech, an active supporter of Philippine agriculture, said that the mobile app is their gift to Filipino farmers to provide awareness and encourage more farmers to use technology and increase their harvest.?They also featured the Filipino folk song ?Magtanim Ay Di Biro? to familiarize young players to the local tune.

PesteBal is now available on Google Play Store for free.
