To make shopping quicker and more convenient, mall operator SM has activated the PayMaya QR option in all its department stores.
Along with the wireless transaction, PLDT-owned PayMaya is also offering a nationwide 10-percent rebate promo (up to P100 per branch per day) on PayMaya QR-based purchases at all branches of The SM Store from January 15 to April 15. Customers who spent P1,000 qualifies for an iPhone X raffle.
“More and more Filipinos are using cashless payments with PayMaya, and we’re excited to work with like-minded companies such as SM in innovating on the retail shopping experience with the help of our payment technologies,” said PLDT, Smart, Voyager, and PayMaya chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan.
“The retail landscape is changing, and The SM Store is proud to lead the way with partners like PayMaya,” The SM Store president Chelo C. Monasterio said. “We are happy to have a new way to making shopping more convenient for our shoppers.”
The QR option is an upgrade of PayMaya’s cashless system which has been available since last December 2017 in all branches of The SM Store nationwide.
“SM has been an early partner of PayMaya as a load-up center for our customers, as well as a valued partner of our Smart Padala remittance service,” PayMaya Philippines president and CEO Orlando B. Vea said as he cited SM for helping accelerate the adoption of cashless transactions in the retail industry.
“This is a natural progression of our collaboration as we make it easier for our customers to use their PayMaya accounts anywhere they are in the country,” Vea added.
The partnership between the two companies is in line with the National Retail Payment System initiative led by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. This “Cashless Philippines” initiative aims to increase the share of electronic transactions by 20 percent by the year 2020.
