Int’l data privacy group names 2 Pinoys to Asia advisory board

The Internal Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) has appointed two Filipino data privacy executives to its Asia advisory board.

The two officials – Damian Domingo “Dondi” Mapa and Ramdall Evengelista — started their two-year term on January 1, 2019.

The IAPP is a not-for-profit organization and is said to be the largest and most comprehensive global information privacy community and resource. The group counts more than 20,000 members across 83 countries.

Its Asia Advisory Board is comprised of a group of privacy professionals actively contributing to the rapid development of the privacy profession in Asia.

Mapa is a former deputy privacy commissioner of the National Privacy Commission (NPC). He is a co-author and signatory of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Data Privacy Act of 2012 as well as various NPC circulars and advisories. He has also advised numerous DPOs and their organizations on their compliance journey.

Evangelista, on the other hand, is the data privacy director of the Gokongwei-owned carrier Cebu Pacific Air.

IAPP says it provides education and certification to its members such the CIPP (Certified Information Privacy Professional), CIPM Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), and CIPT (Certified Information Privacy Technologist) certification programs, which are globally recognized as industry benchmarks.
