The Cagayan State University (CSU) has introduced its fully electric, zero-emission C-Trike during the 2025 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW), highlighting a major push toward sustainable mobility in Northern Luzon.
The C-Trike, developed by CSU’s ElectroMobility Research and Development Center (EMRDC), was showcased as one of the flagship innovations of this year’s regional celebration.
Supported by the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD), DOST Region 2, and the University of the Philippines Diliman, the project seeks to offer a cleaner, smarter alternative to gasoline-powered tricycles widely used across Philippine towns and cities.
Backed by ₱79.4 million in funding under DOST’s Smart and Sustainable Communities Program, the C-Trike can travel up to 80 kilometers on a single charge — positioning it as a viable option for daily urban transport.
Early discussions are underway with the Federation of Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (FETODA) to explore policies governing the use and regulation of converted electric tricycles.
To support commercialization, CSU has signed technology licensing agreements with ACT Machineries and Metal Craft Corporation and Suki Trading Corporation, paving the way for mass production and potential expansion to more local government units interested in eco-friendly transportation.
The C-Trike is among the featured innovations at NSTW 2025, which runs from November 18 to 21 in Laoag City.
