Groq, Equinix boost AI speed across Asia-Pacific

AI chipmaker Groq is accelerating its push into the Asia-Pacific region through a new partnership with global data center operator Equinix, aiming to deliver faster and more cost-efficient AI inference to enterprises across the region.

In a press briefing held recently in Australia, Groq announced the deployment of its infrastructure inside Equinix’s International Business Exchange data center in Sydney. The move will anchor the company’s APAC expansion and bring high-speed, low-latency AI compute closer to users in Australia and neighboring Asian markets.

The partnership includes the construction of a 4.5MW Groq facility in Sydney, one of the largest dedicated AI inference sites in the country. According to Groq, the site will deliver up to five times faster and more affordable compute power than traditional GPUs and hyperscaler clouds — an advantage that could reshape how enterprises deploy and scale AI applications.

Groq has already begun working with Australian customers, including Canva, to support workloads ranging from enhanced customer engagement to internal productivity tools.

The impact, however, extends beyond Australia. Because of the country’s proximity to major Asian economies, Groq’s Sydney deployment will provide lower-latency access to AI-ready digital infrastructure for much of Southeast Asia and other neighboring markets.

During the briefing, Groq CEO and founder Jonathan Ross demonstrated this regional reach by tasking the Groq platform to build and debug an app in real time. Running on the Sydney-based infrastructure, the system mapped the countries that could benefit from the new AI hub in under a minute.

“From Australia, we can also serve other locations… almost all of Southeast Asia can benefit,” Ross said. “The world doesn’t have enough compute for everyone to build AI. That’s why Groq and Equinix are expanding access, starting in Australia.”

Scott Albin, Groq’s APAC general manager, underscored the region’s importance: “Asia-Pacific is a key growth market for Groq, with over half of our global developers already using GroqCloud based here. Our deployment in Equinix’s Sydney data centre is our first step to bring high-performance, cost-efficient AI inference closer to the region, enabling secure, low-latency access while supporting Australia’s data sovereignty.”

Groq’s offering is powered by GroqCloud, its AI inference platform built on the company’s Language Processing Unit — an architecture designed specifically to run large language models more quickly and efficiently than standard GPUs.

Seamless APAC access will be supported by Equinix Fabric, the company’s software-defined interconnection service that links customers to Equinix’s global digital infrastructure.

Equinix Asia-Pacific president Cyrus Adaggra said the partnership aligns with rising enterprise demand for dependable, high-performance AI compute.

“Groq is a pioneer in AI inference, and we’re delighted they’re rapidly scaling their high-performance infrastructure globally through Equinix. Our unique ecosystems and wide global footprint continue to serve as a connectivity gateway to their customers and enable efficient enterprise AI workflows at scale,” he said.

The Sydney deployment marks Groq’s latest expansion with Equinix, following earlier rollouts across the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East. The company’s global AI infrastructure build-out began in 2024 and has continued aggressively throughout 2025 as businesses race to reduce latency and increase performance in AI-driven services.
