Google has introduced new artificial intelligence features to its Google Chrome browser in the Philippines, aiming to make it easier for users to search, understand, and act on information directly within the browser.
The update integrates Google’s latest AI model, Gemini 3.1, into Chrome. The enhancements are initially available on desktop and iOS, while Android users can access Gemini across apps, including Chrome, by holding the power button.
The company said the new features allow users to interact with web content without switching tabs. Through a side panel, users can summarize articles, generate ideas, and ask questions about what they are viewing.
The tool can also assist in tasks such as creating quizzes, modifying recipes, and recalling previously visited pages.
Chrome’s AI capabilities also extend to integrations with Google services such as Gmail, Google Maps, Google Calendar, and YouTube. These integrations allow users to take actions — such as scheduling meetings or sending emails — without leaving their current tab.
Users can also work across multiple open tabs, with the AI able to consolidate information or compare details, such as when planning activities or shopping online.
The update includes an image-editing tool called Nano Banana 2, which allows users to modify images directly within the browser using text prompts.
Google said the features were built with security measures, including safeguards against prompt injection attacks and confirmation prompts for sensitive actions like sending emails or adding calendar events.
The browser’s auto-update system is also designed to respond to emerging threats.
“These are just some of the new capabilities that represent the next chapter of Chrome in making the web more accessible and actionable to everyone in the Philippines,” the company said.
Google said it plans to roll out additional features and expand support to more regions and languages later this year.
