Report: AI adoption outpaces workforce training in PH

Artificial intelligence has entered the daily routines of most Filipino employees, but companies are struggling to provide workers with training tailored to their jobs, according to a report from human resources technology company Sprout.

Sprout’s “State of HR 2026 Report: AI & the Filipino Workforce” found that 78% of surveyed employees use AI every day, while only 35% receive role-specific AI training.

The findings were based on responses from more than 3,500 employees across 13 industries nationwide. Employees reported that AI helped improve productivity, reduce workplace stress, and increase recognition at work, although the company did not provide detailed figures for these outcomes in its announcement.

The gap between employee use and formal training suggests that workers may be adopting AI tools faster than their employers can establish policies, develop skills, and integrate the technology into specific roles.

“The question is no longer whether AI will reshape work — it’s how leaders choose to shape that transformation,” said Kislay Chandra, chief operating officer of Sprout. “The organizations that will succeed are those that combine human capability and AI effectively.”

Sprout released the report during its HR Summit, where executives discussed the role of organizational culture, leadership, and employee trust in AI adoption.

Cliff Eala, CEO of BS Works, said human judgment would remain necessary even as companies automate more workplace tasks.

“We often don’t have complete, accurate, and timely information. This absence breeds uncertainty, which begs for judgment. And this is exactly where the human is needed,” Eala said.

Mia Cuenco, HR director at Smartsourcing, said employers should focus on using the technology to augment employees instead of framing adoption solely around potential job displacement.

“The conversation should no longer be about whether AI replaces work, but how it empowers people to do their best work,” Cuenco said.

During the event, Sprout also introduced AI-based products for HR administration, workforce analytics, regulatory compliance, and performance management.

These include Sidekick and Command Center for employee support and HR administration; Foresight for predictive and prescriptive workforce analytics; Comply for Philippine labor and tax compliance; and Sprout Perform and Perform Pro for AI-assisted reviews, 360-degree feedback, and objectives and key results alignment.

Sprout also launched the Foresight Awards, a program recognizing organizations based on workforce health and employee-management practices measured through data.

“The challenge isn’t adopting AI — it’s helping people adopt a new way of working,” said Sprout chief marketing officer Renzo Belardo. “As AI capabilities become increasingly accessible, leadership, continuous learning, and the ability to bring people along will become the true competitive advantage.”
