Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has started selling the global ninth-generation Hilux, introducing updated diesel models alongside the nameplate’s first battery-electric 4×4 variant.
The expanded lineup reflects Toyota’s “multi-pathway approach,” under which the automaker continues to offer internal-combustion vehicles while adding electrified options for different markets and applications.
The Hilux BEV uses a dedicated ladder-frame chassis with reinforced protection for its high-voltage battery and electric axles. Its dual-motor system produces a combined 196 PS, with 200 Nm of torque from the front motor and 269 Nm from the rear.
A permanent electric all-wheel-drive system distributes torque between the two axles to improve traction on different surfaces.
The electric pickup is powered by a 59.2-kWh lithium-ion battery, with Toyota claiming a driving range of up to 315 kilometers under the New European Driving Cycle, an older testing standard that may produce higher estimates than newer protocols.
Ground clearance is rated at 287 millimeters, compared with as much as 312 mm for the diesel variants. The BEV measures 5,320 mm long, 1,855 mm wide and 1,845 mm high.
Charging is supported through AC Type 2 and DC CCS2 connections. The P2.99-million vehicle comes with a wall charger and home installation.
Toyota said authorized dealers with electric-vehicle charging facilities include branches in Alabang, Commonwealth, Global City, Makati, Manila Bay, North EDSA, Pasig, Quezon Avenue, Pampanga, Laguna, La Union, Batangas and Cebu.
The diesel range, meanwhile, uses a 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 204 PS. Manual-transmission models generate 420 Nm of torque, while automatic versions deliver up to 500 Nm.
Higher-grade V and Conquest variants receive electric power steering, while the G and E retain hydraulic steering. The Conquest also has Multi-Terrain Select settings for dirt, rock, sand, mogul and mud, as well as Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, seven airbags and a panoramic-view monitor.
The new model adopts what Toyota calls its “Cyber Sumo” design, marked by C-shaped LED headlights, a wider honeycomb grille and an integrated step for easier access to the cargo bed. The electric model uses an enclosed grille to reduce aerodynamic drag and distinguish it from the diesel versions.
Inside, the BEV, Conquest and V variants have a 12.3-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The G and E models use an 8-inch display with wired smartphone connectivity.
Prices for the diesel Hilux lineup start at P1.772 million, while the sole battery-electric variant costs P2.99 million.
