The Department of Education (DepEd) has launched a digital platform designed to connect private donors with public schools needing support and track contributions under the Adopt-A-School Program.
Introduced during the Visayas leg of DepEd’s Adopt-A-School roadshow in Bacolod City on Thursday, July 30, the platform allows companies, civic groups, and other organizations to identify priority projects and monitor their donations.
It also provides information on tax incentives available under Republic Act No. 8525, or the Adopt-A-School Act of 1998, and related Bureau of Internal Revenue regulations.
Education secretary Sonny Angara said the platform seeks to make it easier for prospective donors to support schools.
“Many of our fellow Filipinos and members of the private sector want to help our schools and learners. We only need to give them a faster and clearer system to take part in bringing about change.” Angara said.
DepEd also presented an expanded menu of projects that private organizations may fund. The priority areas include classrooms and other learning spaces, school safety initiatives, and work immersion programs for senior high school students.
The department said the funding priorities were aligned with its five-point reform agenda and recommendations from the Second Congressional Commission on Education.
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and the Commission on Higher Education presented separate lists of projects open to private-sector support.
DepEd said 192 organizations are currently supporting education initiatives nationwide. The Adopt-A-School roadshow will proceed to Mindanao and Luzon after its Visayas leg.
