During a trade mission to Washington DC, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) secretary Ramon Lopez secured the commitment of US firms Black and Veatch and SBA Communications to build hyperscale data centers and common towers in the Philippines.
At the groundbreaking of its 11th and largest hyperscale data center in Sta. Rosa, Laguna on Friday, March 18, PLDT president and CEO Al Panlilio said the soon-to-be-built facility will be the biggest in the country with no peers in its class.
After successive announcements from local and foreign companies on data center projects in the country, Globe Telecom has joined the "hyperscaler" fray by disclosing on Wednesday, March 2, that it formed of a joint venture partnership with Singapore-based ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) and Ayala Corporation (AC) for the construction of data center projects in the Philippines.
ePLDT Vitro’s 11th data center — Vitro Sta. Rosa — will rise in what is said to be the country’s largest DC campus by far -- a five-hectare PLDT property in the industrial city of Sta. Rosa.
Dubbed “The Hive,” it is said to be the largest operating telco-neutral data center facility in the country, with three floors capable of housing at least 3,000 server racks of up to 45U rack height.
The solution enables local businesses to run AWS cloud services locally within Beeinfotech PH’s “The HIVE” data center while also benefiting from its hosting and telco-neutral services.
The new multi-million facility is operated by Beeinfotech PH, which is being led by industry veteran Reynaldo Huergas, who previously headed data center firm IP Converge before it was bought by PLDT.
Alibaba Cloud said the data center will be constructed in Metro Manila and will bring the company’s total availability zones to 76, spread across 25 regions worldwide.
