After exceeding its projected life span of 18 months with four years of journey in space, the country’s first micro-satellite – Diwata-1 – is ending its mission and is expected to burn up as it re-enters the Earth’s atmosphere.
Deployed into the 600-km Sun-Synchronous Orbit on October 29, 2018, Diwata-2 is the country’s third satellite sent to space, following the 50-kg micro-satellite Diwata-1 (deployed to space April 27, 2016) and the 1-kg nano-satellite Maya-1 (deployed on June 29, 2018).
Researchers from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) are using images from the Diwata-1 microsatellite to conduct remote sensing processing and analysis of Manila Bay .
