Globe said it has logged over 1.5 million SIM registrations as of Dec. 28, while Smart Communications said it has received close to 400,000 successful applications. Dito Telecommunity, meanwhile, said subscribers who successfully register their SIM cards will receive 2GB bonus data.
The planned Asia Link Cable (ALC) will be approximately 6,000 kilometers in length, connecting Hong Kong and Singapore as its trunk, with branches into the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam and Hainan, China.
Ayala-owned telco Globe will no longer be using the word “Telecom” in its trade name and marketing collaterals as it transitions to a digital solutions provider and veer away from its core telecommunications business.

A lawyer for local operator Globe Telecom said during a Senate hearing on Thursday, Sept. 8, that lawmakers may consider inserting a provision in the proposed SIM registration bill that requires SIM cards to be activated only after registration.
