SIM registration is helping drive Mobile Number Portability (MNP) among mobile users, as more people take the opportunity to move to the network they wish to register under their name under the SIM Registration Law, according to Telecommunications Connectivity Inc. (TCI).
Telecommunications Connectivity Inc. (TCI) said a combination of non-technical and technical issues contributed to the birth pains in the implementation of Mobile Number Portability.
Smart Communications said on Monday, Oct. 18, that it has seen more users switching to its network during the first 10 days of the implementation of Mobile Number Portability (MNP).
Smart Communications also lambasted Globe Telecom for being “oblivious of the hardships being suffered by former Globe customers that ported in to Smart”, for the inability of GCash to work properly, adding that Globe was also acting with "a hint of righteousness".
Smart Communications has questioned the advisory sent by GOMO, a mobile service provider operated by Globe, that mobile number portability is not yet available for its subscribers despite the effectivity of the MNP law on Sept. 30.
Top officials of Smart Communications urged subscribers of its rival telco to make the switch and take advantage of the new law that allows mobile users to move between operators without changing their numbers.
Local telcos DITO, Globe Telecom, and Smart Communications conducted the tests in preparation for the implementation of mobile number portability by September 30.
Local telcos earlier estimated that the process of integration, interoperability, and other technical preparations would take some time and will make number portability services ready by the second half of 2021.
Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian pointed out that mobile number portability should be available within six months from the promulgation of the IRR, as provided under Section 11 of the Mobile Number Portability Act (MNPA).
