The concession holder of South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) has installed automatic license plate readers (ALPR) to enhance its toll collection system that will allow for barrier-less toll plazas.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr), through its Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) will conduct a dry run starting Friday, Sept. 1, to test the readiness of concessionaires for a smooth and efficient reimplementation of the program.

The figure doubled the number of stickers the company issued to motorists from 2015 to 2019 totaling 1.3 million.

SMC also announced that it will enforce the planned “Three-Strike Policy” for erring motorists who use ETC lanes with insufficient load credits.

For a minimum amount of P200, customers with GCash accounts can just go to the Pay Bills portion of the app, select Transportation, and choose either Autosweep or EasyTrip, and enter their account number and the amount they want to load.

SMC said it converted all but one of its 66 dedicated “onsite” or toll plaza stations into 24/7 stickering stations.

SMC reported opening a total of 42 new stations in the last two weeks, in addition to the 53 stations it had as of November, bringing the current total to 95 stations.

The Senate adopted on Monday, Dec. 14, Senate Resolution 596 asking the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to immediately suspend the implementation of cashless transactions on tollways.

House speaker Lord Allan Velasco estimated that it would take more than two years for all vehicles using the tollways to be provided with the RFID stickers.

Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian has warned the operator of North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) that its concession agreement could be revoked due to possible violations committed in the implementation of the RFID rollout.
