The scholarship program is open to Grade 12 students in AY 2020-21 who intend to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) courses in college next school year.
In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the DOST has opened its scholarship program for students wanting to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Out of the total number of passers, 5,917 qualified as scholars under the RA 7687 Scholarship Program, which provide for academically talented students who belong to economically disadvantaged families; while 3,871 qualified under the DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program.
The Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS) program is intended for incoming regular third year college students in Academic Year 2020-2021 who are enrolled in priority science and technology courses.
The contest, which followed football in its previous runs from 2011-2014, now features robots shooting sepak takraw balls in a trajectory towards their respective goals.
The program, which began early 2018, was able to help hundreds of affected students pursue their studies. Notably, out of the 217 BS, 20 MS, and 10 Ph.D. scholars from the first batch of beneficiaries, 131 have already graduated of which three and nine earned Magna cum laude and Cum laude honors, respectively.
This is only the second time, after the 58th IMO in 2017, that all six members of the Philippine team won a medal. The Philippines also ranked 31st out of 112 countries, up from last year’s 38th out of 107 countries.
