Globe Telecom, meanwhile, has warned the public about the dangers of over-the-top or OTT messaging platforms such as Viber and Facebook Messenger, which bypass mobile networks and evade SMS blocking.

Top officials of Smart Communications urged subscribers of its rival telco to make the switch and take advantage of the new law that allows mobile users to move between operators without changing their numbers.
