Among the companies that have expressed their intent to bid as a third telco player are PT&T, Now Corporation, Converge ICT, TransPacific Broadband Group, and Easy Call Communications Philippines.
The bidder to be selected as the country's new major player should not have any merger plans or joint venture agreements with either the dominant telco players, the PCC said.
Sen. Koko Pimentel said "it is the DICT's responsibility" to reconcile the issues and "come up guidelines that will incentivize the entry of a new telco player while protecting the interests of consumers."
