A local showbiz celebrity leads Google’s top 10 search items for the Philippines in a list that is a mixed bag of news and popular culture.

In its year-end report, Google noted that “Filipinos showed a deep regard for sports with 70 percent of the top 10 events searches mainly revolving around boxing, basketball, football, and tennis.”
“Filipinos showed much local love for Manny Pacquiao, whose two fights made it on the list, and Gilas Pilipinas, who Pinoys cheered for during the Asian Games and FIBA World Cup. The list also showed that Pinoys are not to be left behind with the global enthusiasm for the FIFA World Cup, which merited second place, and the Wimbledon at number 10,” Google noted.
Google Philippines communications manager Gail Tan said the top 10 search items this year showed the Pinoy’s balanced interest toward local and global events.
“We’ve seen an immense interest for global happenings, and at the same time, we’ve not fallen short of national concern in our country’s own affairs,” Tan said.
