Held at the Makati Shangri-la Hotel in Makati City, the technology conference was organized by analyst firm IDC and telco giant PLDT. It gathered almost 200 CIOs and IT decision-makers from top corporations from various industries.

At the press briefing, executives from both IDC and PLDT were one in saying that cloud computing is a major technology disruptor, as well as a great equalizer.

?While we are still in the nascent stage, we are already seeing some double digit growth in cloud adoption in the country,? said PLDT Alpha head Jovy Hernandez.

Hernandez said the local tech industry has not reached an inflection point yet where cloud adoption has attained widespread use. This, he said, presents both a challenge and opportunity for cloud providers like PLDT to push cloud even more.

?There?s still some disparity between the interest to go into the cloud and adoption among local firms,? said Nico Alcoseba of PLDT Alpha.

To translate that interest into actual implementation, ePLDT chief operating officer Nerisse Ramos said cloud providers should be able to ?catch them (local businesses) when are about to refresh? their IT infrastructure.

Data center services and technologies were also highlighted in the one-day summit with IDC Indonesia associate research director Sudev Bangah giving insight on the evolving data center and the emerging trends and strategies in the Asia Pacific.

PLDT and IDC said they intent to make the technology summit an annual event.
