A survey of TV households in Metro Manila has found that 55% or one in two homes are using digital TV set-up boxes, particularly in the form of ABS-CBN TV Plus.

When combined with other digital platforms such as cable and direct-to-home satellite, the figure rises to 72% of the total TV households in Metro Manila, the survey conducted by Kantar Media indicated.

Three establishment surveys were conducted by Kantar in February, May, and August this year to determine the media landscape in the country, particularly how Filipinos are watching television.

In Mega Manila, 44% of non-cabled homes also have access to digital TV through the TV Plus boxes. ABS-CBN said it has already sold a cumulative total of 3.6 million boxes as of mid-September this year.

By end-2016, ABS-CBN said it has sold 2.2 million TV Plus units, surpassing its year-end target sales of two million boxes.

“We are on track to hit our target of selling a cumulative total of four million ABS-CBN TV Plus boxes this year as more Filipinos experience ABS-CBN TV Plus’ promise of clear picture and additional exclusive channels with no monthly fees,” said Chinky Alcedo, head of ABS-CBN Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT).

ABS-CBN said it was the first media and entertainment company in the country to make the switch from analog to digital terrestrial television when it launched ABS-CBN TV Plus in 2015.

The ABS-CBN TV Plus, which has a retail price of P1,499, has signal coverage that is available in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Rizal, Laguna, Pampanga, Tarlac, Benguet, Cavite, Metro Cebu, Cagayan De Oro, Iloilo, Bacolod, and Davao.

Once you go digital, you never go back! The only benefit analog has over digital is that it’s less expensive – for now, that is.
