Nokia bares launch of 5 new phones, wireless earbuds in PH

With Nokia currently focused on delivering telecommunication solutions, HMD Global, home of Nokia phones, has also been active in rolling out products.

The Nokia 7.2

After releasing three phones just this July, the company recently announced five new devices that will join their Android One and feature phone lineup at the IFA 2019 in Berlin.

Two smartphones were announced. There’s the Nokia 7.2 that will arrive with all the bells and whistles thanks to Zeiss Optics. Then, there’s the Nokia 6.2 which resembles the 7.2 and features a fairly powerful imaging setup and PureDisplay to entice customers looking at the midrange segment.

The Nokia 7.2 will be all about the camera, as it aims to compete with the Leica brand present in Huawei’s flagship devices. It will bear a triple shooter setup with a 48MP main sensor that uses Quad Pixel technology. A quirk that the camera UI may have that photography enthusiasts may love is the presence of unique bokeh styles enabled by ZEISS. Users can choose the movement or direction of the blurred part of the portrait shot, and yes, it can be swirly.

Low-light photography is also a feature that the 7.2 wants to be known for. It uses AI low-light image fusion technology combined with the main shooter to produce well-lit and balanced photos despite the lighting conditions. Its display will have HDR as well and the premium finish and durability can always be expected.

Coming in hot with a similar triple camera setup which is sadly not backed by ZEISS Optics is the 6.2, basically a toned down version of the 7.2. Its main sensor is a 16MP shooter partnered with a depth and wide-angle sensor.

The Nokia 6.2

Both the 7.2 and the 6.2 do not have telephoto lenses which could be a deal breaker for some. Although both of them still retain the audio jack and run Android 9 (Pie) out of the box complete with three years of monthly security updates which we can confirm is timely, and two years of OS upgrade support.

In any case, both phones have a decently sized battery of 3500mAh with 5V/2A charging compatibility and comes with a wide array of sensors which phone brands usually get thrifty on to lower the price. They will also come with NFC functionality, a dedicated Google Assistant button, and notification led light in the power button.

According to Sancho Chak, HMD Global Philippines general manager, touching all the price points with phones that cater to the diverse needs of Filipinos is the idea behind the new lineup of Nokia phones.

“HMD Global has been prioritizing consumer feedback in order to deliver reliable, cutting-edge technology, durability and accessibility to reach more Filipino fans, all whilst being committed to its brand promise of phones that just keep getting better with the latest Android updates,” added Chak.

There are also three new feature phones in HMD Global’s portfolio. This will be headlined by the return of the iconic flip phone in the form of the new Nokia 2720 Flip powered by 4G.

The feature phone is water and dust proof, and can withstand drops and extreme temperatures. It is also a surprise that it comes with WhatsApp and Facebook, added in with some of the latest features in modern devices. This phone is meant to be for outdoor use where modern smartphones may not be built for.

The Nokia 2720 Flip integrates modern connectivity and features on a familiar compact flip phone design. It can connect users to Facebook and WhatsApp and has a dedicated Google Assistant button and emergency button as well. HMD Global is positioning the phone as a digital detox device while offering the option of keeping users in the loop through 4G enabling capabilities.

The Nokia 800 Tough

Meanwhile, the Nokia 800 Tough will be the first rugged Nokia phone produced by HMD Global, banking on their fame in the durability department.

The final product in the roster comes in the form of a modernized Nokia 110 that boasts of entertainment features such as an MP3 player, a built-in camera, and a built-in radio. The classic game title Snake can also be spotted, all in a very affordable price that will be announced soon.

The True Wireless Nokia Power Earbuds

Aside from the five devices, Nokia has also announced their True Wireless Nokia Power Earbuds offering with 150 hours of playback time and high-quality audio through its 6mm Graphene drivers. The earbuds can also be submerged for up to 30 minutes underwater at 1-meter depth, compatible up to Bluetooth 5.0, and has a dedicated Google Assistant with one touch.
