Dell’s new desktop fits entire PC in monitor stand

PC maker Dell Technologies recently bared the latest addition to its desktop products — the 7070 Ultra of the OptiPlex series which features a new form factor that enables the thin display stand to house the PC internals, better flexibility for upgrades, and an option to add another monitor.

With the now fully modular design, the display can be swapped out independently from the PC.

According to Ronnie Latinazo, Dell Technologies Philippines country general manager, the flexible combination of all-in-one (AIO) and micro-form factors allow businesses to help their employees max out productivity in the workplace inside a clutter-free environment.

“The OptiPlex brand actually started way back in August 2, 1992. It’s been our longest-selling brand in the world. In 1996, OptiPlex was the first green PC, using 100% recyclable plastic. Today, we have the OptiPlex 7070 Ultra which is the first of its kind zero footprint solution in the market,” said Latinazo.

As the industry’s first ultra-PC form factor, the OptiPlex 7070 Ultra covers two things — the flexibility to upgrade or replace the display or any components independently, and combine the AIO and micro-form factor. It is able to save space while the modular design is able to augment the way compute is being done on the desktop level.

Latinazo noted that with this, customers can get the best of both worlds: full-power capability with full features in a form factor that’s smallest in the world.

“The workplace is changing. More and more companies are being pressured to cut costs, save space, and open floor plans, and changing the place of work for the workforce. As more organizations move to open floor plans, we’re looking for technology that maximizes desk space, employee productivity, and IT investments,” he said.

The PC setup uses a single USB-C cable for power delivery and can be complemented with external flexible monitor stands, an upgraded PC module, Dell displays, and other third-party VESA screens.

Out of the box, the product is powered by a 25W quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with options for a higher 64GB DDR4 RAM configuration, and up to two SSDs at 1TB capacity each. It supports NVMe SSDs and Wi-Fi v6 and maintains necessary ports like Ethernet and USB-A.

“Thirty-five years ago, Dell disrupted the way PCs were made and delivered to the world. With the OptiPlex 7070 Ultra, we are changing the category again, with an innovative desktop solution that’s hidden in plain sight,” Latinazo said.
