As Twitter marks its 7th birthday this year, mobile operator Smart Communications has started offering free access to Twitter to its more than 50 million subscribers last June 1. The promo ends on July 31, 2013.
With Smart?s Free To Tweet promo, all Smart prepaid and postpaid subscribers who use a smartphone or even a basic but Internet-capable handset can enjoy access to Twitter at no connectivity cost.
Smart subscribers have to type http://m.twitter.com on their mobile browser URL and start enjoying the full Twitter experience, from tweeting updates, uploading photos, checking their feeds, following other Twitter users, and sending direct messages.
To get more details about the promo and how they can avoid data charges, users can text TWITTER to 211 (for Prepaid and regular postpaid users), or to 7577 (for All-In users), or to 9990 (for Freedom users).
Regular charges will apply when a user clicks on links that point to other websites outside of Twitter. A paywall will appear when users click on outbound links, warning them upon leaving the free Twitter zone.
To ensure that no charges will apply upon start of browsing, users should set their mobile browser?s home page to Smart?s free site http://m.smart.com.ph.
