LG flagship phone G2 makes splashing PH debut

The much-hyped LTE-ready LG G2, which is said to be ?the best smartphone in the world?, has finally made its local debut at a recent launch event in Solaire Resort and Casino in Pasay City.


Glowing reports about LG Mobile?s newest flagship have been milling around since its worldwide launch in New York the previous month. Even global netizens have voted LG G2 as ?the best smartphone out there now? in a recent poll.

The LG G2?s design stems from behavioral studies and features the world?s first Rear Key, which is used for switching on and off, activating LG?s QuickMemo, and launching the 13-megapixel Full HD camera.

The device sports a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS display and contains a battery capacity at 3,000 mAh. It also boasts of the industry?s first 24 bit/192kHz Hi-Fi sound playback for studio-quality audio.

Upgrades have been made in the user experience (UX) features already found in previous LG smartphones, such as QuickMemo, QuickTranslator, QuickRemote, Audio Zoom, Dual Camera, and Dual Recording.

The LG G2 also incorporates new and practical UX features such as KnockON, which turns the display on or off by tapping twice with a finger; Guest Mode, which protects the owner?s privacy.

Lawrence Kim, vice president of mobile communications at LG Philippines, noted that the timing of the mobile phone?s Philippine debut is a strategic move.

?The highly anticipated LG G2 generated the shortest period of time between a global and a local launch,? he said. ?We want to support the global rollout and marketing initiatives of the G2 and be able to maximize the market share of the premium mobile user segment in the Philippines.?

The G2 is noticeably without the ?Optimus? which is the smartphone brand that comes with the models of LG Mobile. Kim explained that this signifies a ?human-inspired? smartphone.

Meanwhile, LG Electronics Philippines reported that it has gained ?significant, amount-based market share? in the local smartphone market, according to latest data from consumer research firm GfK.

The company said the rise in its market share was driven by its Optimus L Series line-up released early this year. Both first and second generation L Series mobile phones targeted low to middle market segments.

The South Korean technology firm also unveiled its G Series models this year, the LG Optimus G and LG Optimus G Pro, catering to the premium market.

According to GfK, LG?s smartphone sales for the first half of 2013 almost doubled with a growth of 94 percent versus 2012.
